"Mountains I Have Met" Exhibition
Thank you to Willock and Sax Gallery in Banff Alberta for their hospitality at the opening reception October 26th 2019 for a solo exhibition of mountain landscapes painted from home and travels abroad.
Artist's Statement:
Growing up on the Prairies, I was always heading for higher ground, someplace where I could look out over the landscape. I still have that reflexive response and love to walk up into whatever area I find myself in. I am not a mountaineer, but I love to hike and have been very fortunate to travel to and hike in many mountainous places, near and far… from smaller unnamed mountains closer to home in the Yukon, to famous iconic mountains only glimpsed from a distance. Welcome to an exhibit of 'Mountains I Have Met'.

Points of Reference | Fracturing the Sublime
A solo Exhibition at the Yukon Arts Centre, March - May 2019 included work based on the Arctic Circle Residency. In addition to the paintings, I created my first installation project made with the support of a Yukon Advanced Artist Award. Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Residency
From September through December 2018, I had the pleasure to travel to Taos, New Mexico to participate in the Helene Wurlitzer Artist Residency. This was an amazing opportunity to think, read, and experiment, and to find clarity of focus as I embarked upon creating a new body of work. The landscape, community and fellow artist residents made for a supportive and simulating environment. I can only describe my time there as magical. See the work in progress.

Imaginaire Nord - International Workshop on Creation Dissemination and Research on the North and the Arctic
In April 2018 I presented my paintings from the Arctic Circle Residency in Montreal during the Spring Nordic Festival. It was a wonderful experience to meet with academics, artists and people involved in sharing cultural aspects of northern countries. Thank you to the Canada Council for travel funding to attend at this event.

Frozen Earth, Group Exhibition
New Jersey New York
Four of my Svalbard/Arctic Circle paintings were included in this group exhibition at the Noyes Museum of Art in New Jersey, May 2015 - January 2016. I was able to attend the opening and the adjacent discussion panel with scientists and journalists discussing Arctic environments and Climate Change. The event also allowed me to reconnect with some of the other artists from the Arctic Circle Residency.

Painting Purchased by Canadian Foreign Affairs for Canada House in London UK
Canada House in Trafalgar Square, London serves as our Embassy - The High Commission of Canada - and is also a showcase for Canadian art. I am very pleased to have my painting "Change Break the Chain" there as part of the Canadian Foreign Affairs Permanent Collection. I had the pleasure of going with my Husband and Mom to see it in person.

Winter Journey - Banff Residency
Following my Arctic Circle adventure, I attended the Banff Centre for a thematic residency (Winter Journey 2014) to start a new work based on the arctic landscape. This was my second residency at the Banff Center for the Arts, a great facility supporting the work of Canadian and International artists of every discipline. It was an amazing opportunity for cross-pollination in a beautiful setting.

From the Outer Edges, Solo Exhibition
This exhibition at the Yukon Art Centre (Nov.2013) brought together paintings from three National Parks that touch the outer edges of Canada; Ivvavik National Park Yukon in the north, Gros Morne National Park Newfoundland in the east, and Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Heritage Site Haida Gwaii, in the west.

The Arctic Circle Artist Residency
This International Residency brought 27 artists from 11 different countries together to travel aboard a tall ship in the International Territory of Svalbard, an archipelago of islands north of Norway, approximately 900 km from the north pole. This was such a unique experience, and one that had a profound impact on me. I endeavoured to explore the new landscape with installations both on land and the ship with an underlying interest in historical mapping/navigation; this led to a more philosophical investigation of not just where I was in that physical space, but also whether it was 'okay' to be there. These were questions I looked to think/paint through in an exploratory manner.
I gratefully thank the Yukon Advanced Artist Award for support funding.

Solo Exhibition Haida Gwaii Museum, Skidegate, Haida Gwaii BC
I had the pleasure of visiting the magical Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site and surrounds in the summer of 2010, and then was able to include some early work from that experience in an exhibition back in Skidegate (September 2010)

Ivvavik National Park, Artist in the Park Residency
This is one of the first Artist in the Park Residencies that was developed by Parks Canada to bring artists into National Parks.
The experience was wonderful - to be on the land with other artists, supported by Parks, with the opportunity to show the work afterwards.
Surprisingly, for such a remote area, it was a pretty busy place. Several biologists were there doing insect research. Two rafting groups came through, (one kindly taking us for a joy-ride downriver for a bit!). Another group of scientists doing bear research dropped in (by plane), as did a group of Park Administrators for a meeting. However, with a little elevation gain, we were, as a map would indicate, as far from civilization as you can get.

Landscape as Muse Television Series 2006
The 291 Film Co. produced an art documentary series called "Landscape as Muse" shown on Bravo, Knowledge Network and SCN. I was thrilled to be featured along with other western Canadian artists in the 2006 series.
For my segment, we spent three days in the White Pass area of southern Yukon/ Northern BC, for sketching/painting sessions, and upon return to my studio I worked with the material to produce some larger pieces. Admittedly, trying to concentrate on painting while a camera was pointed at me was difficult, as is trying to put into words something that isn't about language, but it was a great experience and I thank the crew for producing a really interesting series of programs.

Group Exhibition : three rivers | wild waters | sacred places
The Three Rivers Journey was organized by the Yukon Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society to generate awareness regarding the need for conservation in the Peel River Watershed. It resulted in the production of a travelling art exhibition and the publication of "Three Rivers: The Yukon's Great Boreal Wilderness". The art exhibition premiered at the Yukon Art Centre in 2004, continuing on to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa ON, the Maltwood Gallery, University of Victoria, Victoria, B.C., the Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna, B.C. and Art Gallery of Peterborough, Ontario.
